Jake Huard (James Franco) realizes his dream when he is admitted to the Naval Academy at Annapolis. Jake soon discovers that this dream will take some work to fully come true. The strict discipline and tough academic demands of the institution may be more than the boy from a poor blue collar family can handle. Feeling he has nothing to lose, Jake enters a fearsome Navy boxing contest known as the Brigade Championships, in which he must face his arch-nemesis, Midshipman Lieutenant Cole (Tyrese Gibson). Jake lays it all on the line for this fight - the opportunity to make his father proud, validation of his Lieutenant's faith in him, the respect of his fellow plebes, and most importantly the chance to change his future.
