About A Prairie Home Companion

A Prairie Home Companion takes place all on one rainy night in St. Paul , Minnesota .  It happens also to be the last night the popular radio show will air, but the fans are unaware of this and comfortably enjoy the show in the historic Fitzgerald Theater.  They are treated to an all star cast, including Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin performing as The Johnson Sisters - Rhonda & Yolanda - with a poignant rendition of Goodbye to my Mama.  Lindsay Lohan is Meryl’s daughter, thrilled to be getting her big break at the Fitzgerald, but once on stage she forgets her words.  Woody Harrelson and John C. Reilly as the Old Trailhands Dusty and Lefty are on hand with their singing cowboy act.  Garrison Keillor, creator of the radio show on which the fictional version is based, serves as the hangdog emcee.  Backstage are Kevin Kline as Guy Noir, a down and out private eye working as a doorkeeper and Maya Rudolph as a stagehand.  Virginia Madsen appears as an angel and Tommy Lee Jones is the Axeman.  The film is skillfully directed by Robert Altman and written by Keillor.  Rounding out the cast are L.Q. Jones, Marylouise Burke, Tim Russell, Sue Scott and Robin Williams as himself.
