About Nanny McPhee
The
recently widowed Mr. Brown (Colin Firth) has already gone through seventeen
nannies, all of whom have been frightened away by his seven untamed children.
Leading the reign of terror is the oldest boy, Simon (Thomas Sangster). Enter
Nanny McPhee (Emma Thompson), who seems immune to the tactics that drove away
her predecessors. In fact, the children now find that their naughtiness leads
quickly and inexplicably to some startling consequences. Nancy McPhee's rather
magical influence reaches to the family's underlying problems as well, including
Mr. Brown's sudden and unexplainable drive to find a new Mrs. Brown; the
declaration by the formidable Aunt Adelaide (Angela Lansbury) that she intends
to take one of the children to live with her; and the secret yearnings of the
family maid, Evangeline (Kelly MacDonald). As the household becomes less
dysfunctional, Nanny McPhee's appearance begins to change, deepening the mystery
surrounding this remarkable woman that the family has come to love.
