The Multi-Academy Award-Nominated Film, Directed by Clooney and Written

Edward R. Morrow and U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy
George Clooney, David Strathairn, Robert Downey, Jr. and Patricia
Clarkson star in the Network television premiere of the multi-Academy
Award nominated GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK, to be broadcast on Saturday,
Dec. 29 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Taking place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950's
America, GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK chronicles the real-life conflict
between television news man Edward R. Murrow (Strathairn) and Senator
Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee.
With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow and
his dedicated staff headed by his producer Fred Friendly (Clooney) and Joe
Wershba (Downey, Jr.) in the CBS newsroom, defy corporate and sponsorship
pressures to examine the lies and scare-mongering tactics perpetuated by
McCarthy during his communist "witch-hunts." A public feud
develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a
communist.
In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on, their
tenacity eventually paying off when McCarthy is brought before the Senate
and made powerless as his lies and bullying tactics are finally uncovered.
GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK was written by Clooney and Grant Heslov and
directed by Clooney for Warner Independent Pictures.
GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK was nominated for six Academy Awards in 2006
including Best Picture; Best Director, Clooney; Best Performance by An
Actor in a Leading Role, Strathairn; Best Original Screenplay; Best
Achievement in Art Direction and Best Achievement in Cinematography.
