The
Sisterhood of Traveling Pants Teams Up With Website to Help Girls
Self-Esteem
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and beinggirl.com Help Girls
Address Self-Esteem, Relationships and Growing Up
CINCINNATI, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Procter & Gamble's popular teen
website beinggirl.com, along with Herbal Essences(R) and Warner Bros.
Pictures, are joining forces to promote the movie The Sisterhood of the
Traveling Pants, which hits theaters this week.
The movie, starring Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake Lively and
Alexis Bledel, highlights the adventures of four best friends as they
experience the angst and celebration of life - topics that are the very
essence of beinggirl.com, produced by Always(R) and Tampax(R). The teen
website, 'created for girls, by girls', will unveil a sassy new look and
attitude in late summer 2005, along with new personalized features that
help girls connect with each other and get advice from experts on topics
that teens face everyday -- from boys to friendship and fashion.
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants / beinggirl.com promotional
partnership will reach girls via a national sweepstakes and 11-city tour.
The sweepstakes will be rolled out through beinggirl.com where girls can
enter to win prizes, including the chance to win two free trips to the
L.A. movie premiere, gift certificates, free movie passes, soundtracks
from the movie, t-shirts and more. Meanwhile, the tour will allow girls to
meet stars of the movie and obtain movie and beinggirl.com gear.
"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants addresses teen issues that
are at the heart of beinggirl.com," said Mary Woods, beinggirl.com
Marketing Specialist. "Since we're a site that is created for girls,
by girls, we listen to girls and stay in tune with what they connect with
and find relevant in their lives. It only makes sense that we would be a
promotional partner with Warner Bros., so we can let girls know that this
movie and the site are great resources for both entertainment and
education and are relevant to any type of girl."
Beinggirl.com now boasts personalized interactive elements that girls
can tailor to their own design, including "Girl 2 Girl Talk,"
where girls can connect directly with each other, the Private Locker area,
a special place to store favorite beinggirl.com content, and the
"Create A Date" game where a girl can design the boy of her
dreams. In addition, girls can receive style, beauty, and fitness tips
from beinggirl.com's partners. Finally, the "Express Yourself"
portion provides a creative outlet for girls to showcase their
individuality and style through poems, short stories and tales of personal
moments.
About The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Alcon
Entertainment's The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, based on Ann
Brashares' best-selling novel, is the story of a very special summer in
the lives of four lifelong friends. Directed by Emmy Award-nominated Ken
Kwapis (Malcolm in the Middle), from a screenplay by Delia Ephron (You've
Got Mail) and Elizabeth Chandler (What a Girl Wants), The Sisterhood of
the Traveling Pants stars Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake Lively and
Alexis Bledel as four best friends who are separated for the first time.
On a shopping trip, the young women find a pair of thrift-shop jeans that
fits each of them perfectly and they decide to use these pants as a way of
keeping in touch over the months ahead, each one wearing the jeans for a
week to see what luck they bring her before sending them on to the next.
Though miles apart, the four friends still experience life, love and loss
together in a summer they'll never forget. The Sisterhood of the Traveling
Pants also stars Bradley Whitford, Nancy Travis, Rachel Ticotin and Jenna
Boyd and is produced by Debra Martin Chase (The Princess Diaries), Denise
Di Novi (A Walk to Remember, Catwoman), Andrew A. Kosove and Broderick
Johnson (Chasing Liberty). The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is set
for a June 2005 release.
About Beinggirl.com - Beinggirl.com was originally launched in
July of 2000 with the goal of providing a forum for girls to explore their
collective interests and receive guidance in choosing the right feminine
protection products provided by Tampax and Always at the very start of
their cycles. The site has consistently involved health care experts and
teens themselves to create an environment encouraging active participation
and the desire to return. Beinggirl.com worked closely with a teen
advisory board to develop fresh, cutting-edge interactive features,
including games and downloads, that today's teens demand, such as the
advice section "Ask Iris," which receives more than 3,000
questions each week. In addition, the site's 500,000+ monthly visitors can
access the hundreds of articles covering health and puberty topics that
provide the site's educational foundation.
