Sixteen-Year-Old Florida Fan Wins Tickets To Hollywood Movie Premiere
NEW YORK, May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Delacorte Press Books for Young
Readers, an imprint of Random House Children's Books, announced today that
16-year-old Kelly Korman from Deerfield Beach, Florida is the winner of
the company's national "Win A Trip to The Sisterhood of the Traveling
Pants Movie Premiere" contest. Korman, her father and her best friend
will be flown to Los Angeles where all three will attend the May 31
premiere of Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures The Sisterhood
of the Traveling Pants, starring Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake
Lively and Alexis Bledel. The film is based on Delacorte's New York Times
bestselling novel by award-winning author Ann Brashares.
Korman's poem "Just Like We Always Do" was selected from over
1500 contest entries received by Random House Children's Books. The
Contest participants were asked to share in 250 words or less what they
would do if they were about to be separated from their best friends, as is
the theme in the third book in the Sisterhood series Girls In Pants: The
Third Summer of the Sisterhood. Korman's fun-loving poem about the bond
between her best friend and her "sisterhood soul-mates" and the
sweater that keeps them connected struck a chord with the Random House
contest judges.
"We received hundreds of wonderful testimonies to the power of
friendship," said Wendy Loggia, Executive Editor, Knopf Delacorte
Dell, and editor of the Sisterhood novels. "What we loved most about
Kelly's poem was the genuine bond she has with her best friend, Heather --
just like the Sisterhood! The presentation and snappy verse truly made her
entry stand out." Director of Trade Marketing Victoria Tisch adds
"We are thrilled with, yet not surprised by, the volume and
enthusiasm of responses. The spirit of friendship that inhabits the
Sisterhood books resonates deeply with readers."
For Korman, receiving the call from Random House was a dream come true.
"I screamed and ran around the house when I got that amazing phone
call telling me I'd won," Korman says. "I've followed the
Sisterhood through all of Ms. Brashares's books, so I know that this event
will be something I'll never forget."
In addition to the grand prize, fifty runners-up will receive an
autographed copy of Girls in Pants: The Third Summer of the Sisterhood, a
Girls in Pants Pants Pocket Photo Album, and the Girls in Pants audiobook
by Listening Library.
