"WHAT WOMEN WANT," THE COMEDY/ROMANCE STARRING MEL GIBSON AND
HELEN HUNT, TO BE REBROADCAST AS THE "CBS SUNDAY MOVIE," SUNDAY,
JUNE 18 ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK
WHAT WOMEN WANT, the 2000 comedy/romance starring Mel
Gibson ("Signs") as Nick Marshall, a chauvinistic executive
whose sudden ability to hear what women are really thinking helps him
undermine his office rival, Darcy McGuire (Helen Hunt "As Good As It
Gets"), will be rebroadcast as the "CBS Sunday Movie,"
Sunday, June 18 (9:00-11:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
(Originally broadcast 10/23/03)
Nick Marshall (Gibson) is a "man's man" -- a politically
incorrect charmer whom most women fall for instantly. Despite being the
most accomplished ad man at Chicago's Sloane Curtis agency, Nick is passed
over for the job of Creative Director by his boss, Dan Wanamaker (Alan
Alda, "Mad City"), because he doesn't know how to sell products
to women. When Darcy Mc Guire (Hunt), the queen of female-driven
marketing, gets the job Nick is determined to unseat her at all costs.
Suddenly, through an accident at home, Nick is granted the power to
hear everything that women think. At first he becomes confused and
terrified because women seem to loathe everything about him except for his
physique and looks. However, he begins to employ his powers for personal
gain both in bed and at the office, where he shamelessly steals Darcy's
ideas and passes them off as his own.
But, along the way, two things start happening. First, Nick begins to
actually empathize with women. Secondly, love starts to get in his way of
his plans to undermine Darcy.
Nancy Meyers ("The Parent Trap") directed the film, from a
screenplay by Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, based on a story by Josh
Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa and Diane Drake. Carmen Finestra, Stephen McEveety,
and David McFadzean are the executive producers, Susan Cartsonis, Bruce
Davey, Gina Matthews, Nancy Meyers and Matt Williams are the producers,
and Bruce A. Block is the co-producers of the 2000 Paramount Pictures
theatrical release.
