UNIVERSAL
CITY, Calif., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The year's most over-the-top,
below-the-belt comedy, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," is coming to
DVD and VHS December 13, 2005 in a rated and unrated version featuring
over 17 additional minutes of wildly hilarious footage filmed specifically
for the DVD and not shown in theaters. The film, which has earned over
$100 million at the box office, stars Steve Carell ("Bruce
Almighty," NBC's "The Office") as Andy Stitzer -- a
sweet-natured but middle-aged virgin who, through the well-meaning but
misguided efforts of his co-workers, begins an unforgettable journey
toward the goal of "getting lucky." The film features an
outstanding ensemble cast including Catherine Keener ("The
Interpreter"), Paul Rudd ("Anchorman"), Romany Malco
("The Tuxedo"), Seth Rogen ("Anchorman: The Legend of Ron
Burgundy"), Elizabeth Banks ("Seabiscuit") and Leslie Mann
("Orange County"). Both versions of the DVD are loaded with tons
of sidesplitting bonus features including uproarious outtakes and deleted
scenes.
"The
40-Year-Old Virgin" marks the feature directorial debut of Emmy
award-winning producer-writer Judd Apatow, who produced the memorable hit
comedies "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" and
"Kicking & Screaming." Apatow is perhaps best recognized for
his work on some of television's most acclaimed shows including
"Freaks & Geeks", "The Larry Sanders Show," and
"The Ben Stiller Show."

Synopsis
Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell) is an amiable, middle-aged, retail employee
with strong geek tendencies and a total lack of experience with the
opposite sex. He's relatively unbothered by his chaste status, but it's a
topic of great interest to his co-workers at the Big-Box electronics store
where he works. They have big plans for Andy, and he begrudgingly joins
their wildly funny plot to rescue him from his four-decade dry spell. Just
when it seems like a lost cause, the unexpected happens: Andy falls in
love...with a single mom (Catherine Keener) who has a "no sex"
dating policy.
