Kenya Denise McQueen (Sanaa Lathan) is the quintessential professional black woman who has it all, except that special someone to share it all with. After yet another day of working late in her position as senior manager at a prestigious accounting firm, in this case Valentine's Day, Kenya agrees to a blind date with Brian Kelly (Simon Baker). The free spirited, devil-may-care Brian is not at all who Kenya had in mind for a future mate. In fact, he's pretty much the exact opposite - except for the sexy, good-looking aspect; yet Kenya finds herself falling for him in spite of herself.
A confused Kenya seeks the advice of her girlfriends (Wendy Raquel Robinson, Golden Brooks, Taraji P. Henson), while the boyfriend of one of them (Mike Epps) offers Brian his insights into the female psyche. On the other hand, there are Kenya's prominent parents (Alfre Woodard and Earl Billings) to offer their own perspective on her new beau - not for you, dear. When her younger brother (Donald Faison) strategically introduces Kenya to her perfect match - on paper - played by Blair Underwood, she is truly thrown into emotional turmoil. Kenya must decide to follow her head or to follow her heart, no matter where it takes her.
