About Wah Wah

This semi-autobiographical tale chronicles the events surrounding the disintegration of young Ralph Compton’s (Nicholas Hoult) family, set against the disintegration of colonial rule in South Africa .  Gabriel Byrne is Ralph’s father Harry Compton, who drinks to soften the blows that come with the termination of his privileged way of life.  Emily Watson plays Ruby Compton, who eventually divorces her alcoholic husband.  The story is based on events from the film’s writer-director Richard E. Grant’s childhood.  Also featured are fine performances from Miranda Richardson as Lauren Compton; Julie Walters as Gwen Traherne; Celia Imrie, Julian Wadham, Fenella Woolgar, Sid Mitchell and Zachary Fox.
