About Winter Passing

The estranged daughter of famous author Don Holden (Ed Harris), Reese Holden (Zoey Deschanel) is enjoying her bohemian life when a book editor offers her a sizable sum of money to secure for publication the love letters her reclusive father wrote to her now deceased mother.  It is with this purpose that Reese returns to her father’s Michigan home for the first time in seven years.  There she finds that a strange collection of friends has moved into her father’s house, including a loner-type musician (Will Ferrell) and an ex-grad student (Amelia Warner).  Reese is concerned that her father cares more about his new friends than he does about his own deteriorating health.  Her arrival proves to be a catalyst for change for the entire household.  The film also features Rachel Dratch and Amy Madigan.  Despite the cast, this film is best characterized as a drama.
